NORMAN, Okla. - A proposed oil and gas well in Norman is drawing controversy.
Around 50 Norman residents showed up to the last Board of Adjustment Meeting ready to voice opposition to a proposed well.
Arrowhead Drilling wants to put in a well near Rock Creek and Cabin Road, a rural area of NE Norman.
They’ve asked the city for a variance because they would be within 300 feet of a stream planning corridor and a Norman city ordinance prohibits that.
Some residents in the area are concerned about water contamination.
In their application for the variance, Arrowhead Drilling said if the city did not grant the variance, they would be in effect denying the Drilling operation, which would go against a state law prohibiting cities from banning an oil and gas operation.
