Powerball drawing hits $460M for Wednesday drawing

A 10-week jackpot drought has pushed the top prize for Wednesday's Powerball drawing to $460 million.

The cash option for the 10:59 p.m. drawing is $278.3 million.

The drawing will be televised on WABC-7 in New York City and Fox 29 in Philadelphia. NJ.com will publish the winning numbers immediately following the drawing.

The day began with the jackpot at $440 million but brisk ticket sales bumped it an additional $20 million.

It would be the 10th largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history if someone has a winning ticket.

No one has hit the jackpot since Oct. 25. That's when a family in Louisiana won $191.1 million. They chose the cash option of $119,492,684.81 and received a check for $83,644,879 after federal and state taxes were deduced.

A ticket worth $1 million was bought at at Wawa on Route 35 in Wall for the last drawing on Saturday. It matched five numbers but not the Powerball and was one of three second-prize tickets sold nationally.

A Powerball ticket costs $2. The odds of hitting the jackpot are 292,201,338 to 1. Players have roughly a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to win the second prize of at least $1 million.

Drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday. The game is offered in 44 states, the Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
