Spring in Austin means outdoor music season is upon us.
OUR TOP PICKS
Friday-Sunday: Austin Reggae Fest at Auditorium Shores. Austin’s annual spring fling, which turns 25 this year, has adopted the slogan “What unity in the community sounds like,” which is appropriate. The fest draws one of the most diverse crowds we see in Austin each year; they show up for the feel-good grooves and the irie vibes. This year’s lineup features New Kingston and Kabaka Pyramind on Friday, Collie Buddz, Natalie Rize and Black Uhuru on Saturday, and the Wailers and Sister Nancy on Sunday. The event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Central Texas Food Bank, and a portion of each ticket sold goes to the local nonprofit. $15 Friday and Sunday, $20 Saturday. $45 for a three-day pass. Gates at 3 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and Sunday. 900 West Riverside Drive. austinreggaefest.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: The Big Squeeze Accordion Contest finals and free concert at Bullock Museum. This annual event presented by Texas Folklife spotlights young accordion players, with finalists in categories including polk, conjunto and Cajun/zydeco. Ten-year-old Ricardo Cabrera of Austin is among the conjunto finalists this year. A special prize honors Anthony Ortiz Jr., the Austin accordion prodigy who died of cancer last year at age 24. Winners in each category receive a prize package valued at more than $4,000, including instruments, cash and performance opportunities. In addition to the finalists, Grammy-nominated accordionist Alex Meixner, Rio Grande Valley ensemble Conjuno Halcon and local favorites Conjunto Los Pinkys will perform. Free. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 1800 Congress Ave. texasfolklife.org. — P.B.
Saturday: Exploded Drawing Fusebox Edition. The folks from Exploded Drawing, the ongoing event series dedicated to elevating electronic music in Austin, team up with Boss Babes ATX and Fusebox Festival to present an evening of abstract R&B and electronica featuring powerful women from across the country. Frequent Kendrick Lamar collaborator Anna Wise leads a bill that also includes Seattle artist Sassy Black and Dot from Los Angeles. Exploded Drawing heads Butcher Bear and Soundfounder open, and members of their team will present visuals throughout the night. Free with RSVP at fuseboxfestival.com. 9:30 p.m. doors. 1500 E. Fourth St. — D.S.S.
Sunday: “David & Us” Bowie tribute & benefit at One-2-One Bar. Salutes to the Thin White Duke have kept on coming since his death a couple years ago, and here’s another that’s for a good cause. Proceeds go to longtime Austin musician Chris Searles’ organization Biointegrity, which supports global climate change and species-saving solutions in the Amazon. Organized by Searles and Giulia Millanta, the event will include performances by Amy Cook, David Pulkingham, Matt Hubbard, Marlon Sexton, Suzanna Choffel, Sally Allen, Johnny Goudie and Adam Sultan. $15. 6 p.m. 1509 S. Lamar Blvd. one2onebar.com. — P.B.
