LUBBOCK, Texas - With the Mega Millions lottery drawing for $1.6 billion being drawn Monday night, some Lubbock locals have lottery fever.
"I hope I win I bought my tickets," Chris Littrell, who bought a ticket to play, said.
The city manager of Abernathy said people playing need to take some tips from the Cantu family from Abernathy, who won the $177 million Mega Millions jackpot last year in Arkansas.
"When we first got notified that the Cantu family won, at first we couldn't believe it. Almost immediately we put their home on close patrol. With the internet, it didn't take long to figure out where they lived," Mike Cypert, the city manager of Abernathy, said.
Cypert said when the Cantus won, random people would come into the City Hall office and ask for the family's address and phone number.
"The problems that you think it will solve will creep up on you. The average person isn't aware but doesn't realize how much," Cypert said.
