Mega Millions: Yonkers store sells $1 million-ticket in $1 billion drawing

Nobody won the big prize — the billion-with-a-B dollars offered in the most recent Mega Millions drawing — but one Yonkers resident beat some hefty odds to to win second place.

That’s a cool million. Now all they have to do is claim it.

Lottery spokesman Brad Maione said a second-prize ticket was sold at the ShopRite at 278 Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers, but nobody has come forward yet to claim their $1 million.

After state, federal and local taxes, that comes out to about $660,000, Maione said.

There were 15 total second prizes awarded across the country in Friday’s drawing, four of which were sold in New York State. Besides Yonkers, winning tickets were sold in Niagara Falls, Middletown and the Bronx.

MEGA MILLIONS: $1.6 billion jackpot creates a frenzy

It may have not been $1 billion, but don't think it's easy to win $1 million — the odds are 12,607,306 to one.

The odds of winning the jackpot are steeper by an order of magnitude — 302,575,350 to one.

Nobody won the grand prize Friday, which kicked it up a notch for anyone willing to try their luck again. The Mega Millions drawing Tuesday will be worth $1.6 billion.

One thing to note: Any store that sold a million-dollar second-place ticket is in for a bit of bad luck.

“The store that sells the ticket gets no commission unless they sell the big prize,” Maione said.
