In October, Californians spotted something a little odd – namely a giant penis that had been drawn in the sky.
Following their little artistic experiment, two Marine Corps pilots were grounded to allow an investigation into the drawing.
Maj. Josef Patterson, a spokesman with the unit, told Marine Corps Times: ’The T-34C crew that is being investigated for flying a pattern resembling an obscene image are currently not flying pending the results of an ongoing investigation.
‘Although not flying, for the time being, the two Marine Corps aviators are still providing vital squadron ground support functions.’
To be fair, it was a pretty good drawing, considering they did it in an aircraft flying at hundreds of miles an hour.
Britain's first upside down house opens its upside down doorsOne Twitter user noted: ‘On the bright side, this shows how greatly proficient these pilots are. They’ve been trained well.
‘We can be proud that our fighter pilots are probably the best in the world, and drawing a penis with this amount of skill, and precision proves it!’
Other social media users were also impressed, with one commenting: ‘It was surgical. Attention to detail is critical in naval aviation.’
Another simply said: ‘God bless America.’
This is not the first time US pilots have been grounded for pulling a phallic stunt.
In November last year, an aircrew who flew a Navy Warplane in the shape of a penis above the town of Okanogan, Washington were grounded.
The contrails of their little excursion were left behind for all to see, and people posted the finished product on Twitter to share it with the rest of the world.
