The Drawing Center and the Center for Urban Pedagogy explore social justice with drawing

This year for its annual Winter Term, The Drawing Center in New York City will challenge its visitors to explore how drawing can specifically address inequity and spur social progress in underserved communities. In partnership with the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP), the Center will shine a light on issues such as land use, immigration, labor rights, and juvenile detention, helping local residents better understand what these matters mean to them.

Final project meeting to review the Making Policy Public project Your School, Your Choice! (The Center for Urban Pedagogy)

Running from February 22 to March 24, 2019, this Winter Term will include an exhibition and a series of events centered on community-engaged design and how it benefits various groups. The Drawing Center will also host talks and panel discussions on CUP’s special projects, which use graphic design and illustration to spark civic engagement.

Winter Term is organized by Chief Curator Claire Gilman, Assistant Curator and Open Sessions Curator Rosario Guiraldes, and Exhibition Designer Peter Ahlberg.
