Menil Collection director Rebecca Rabinow and architects Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee talk about the Menil Drawing Institute, the newest addition to the Menil campus. The Menil Drawing Institute is the first building of its kind, designed specifically for the acquision, study, exhibition, conservation, and storage of drawings. Inspired by liturgical spaces and domestic settings, the architects achieved a design that merges the institutional with the intimate. For the institute’s inaugural exhibitions, curators organized a showing of drawings by Jasper Johns, a site-specific wall drawing by Roni Horn, and a suspended sculpture by Ruth Asawa.
