WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - A drag queen reading event held in September at the Wichita Public Library still drawing controversy.
This morning a few people showed up to the library board meeting to speak about the event and future programming.
During a public comment session, a local pastor spoke out.
"Topics aimed at sexual identity and social progressive agendas should not be introduced by any public library to children," said Pastor Craig Coffey. "Those of us labeled as hateful or intolerant because we disagree with this agenda only serves to marginalize us and our legitimate concerns. This includes selective enforcement and clear violations of library policies and procedures such as those exhibited in
September 2018 during the drag queen story hour."
The board said it's important to find a balance without creating discomfort and began drafting a policy.
The issue has been sent to the city law department and will be presented to city council at a workshop.
