LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Michael William Scott is no one famous. You won't find his name on any plaques or awards.
However, he said the best reward he ever received is the one he has given himself-- a second chance at life.
"I got a second chance at life," says Scott. "I draw every day now."
In 2016, Michael Scott's was involved in a horrible crash. His car was totaled after nearly flipping over driving on black ice.
"I didn't see it," explains Scott. "One minute I am driving and the next I am in the hospital."
His pelvis had to be reconstructed. Seven screws now hold the lower part of his body together and the chance of walking seemed faint.
"Doctors said they didn't think I would be able to walk again," says Scott.
Instead of being depressed he started drawing. Each picture he drew got better and better as strength in his arms and hands returned, says Scott.
"If my upper body was strong why can't the other parts," says Scott. "I didn't want to give up."
Slowly Michael started feeling healthy and happy.
Since fully recovering he has participated in three races and one half marathon. He created his own plaque as an award to himself for his efforts.
"I painted my first pair of running shoes gold," says Scott. "Really anything is possible."
