Coveted 2021 WR Williams drawing lofty comparisons - 247Sports

Programs from across America have jumped in on class of 2021 wide receiver Mario Williams, nearly two dozen to be exact. The Plant City (Fla.) standout already has Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan and many more on the list.

UCLA will get him on campus Saturday and could very well be the next Power 5 program in the mix for one of the most explosive players in the country among rising-junior recruits.

"Once a coach sees and really evaluates his film it's really a no-brainer, you have no choice (but to offer)," Tony Rozier, wide receivers coach at Plant City, told 247Sports. "If you have a football eye you know his game translates over to the next level. Being a sophomore there are still some things he needs to work on, like detail, but once he gets the ball in his hands, the determination to get the house is pretty much what you see.

"He's a great route-runner, he's still working on that, and his hands are great. It's just when he's in space, making that first man miss...once he gets the ball in his hands he's just so explosive. He's a competitor. Every time he touches the ball he wants to get there."

Hauling in 51 passes for 950 yards in the fall, Williams is a big play waiting to happen with 16 total touchdowns in 2018. He hit pay dirt as a receiver, kick and punt returner on a 5-foot-10, 164-pound frame.

"He's strong for a sophomore and is undersized," Rozier said. "But once you really evaluate his film his size is out the door."

Not only are top programs overlooking the size, some have taken it to another level with player comparisons. Lofty would be an understatement.

"He fits the mold of a Hollywood Brown, that's why Lincoln Riley likes him," he said "Florida says he's a Percy Harvin type so it gives you an idea. One coach who played with Peter Warrick watched a game and after the game we talked and he was like, 'he's the closest thing to Peter Warrick and I played with him.'

"That's his ability. I mean he's got an Alabama offer as a sophomore, at his size. Saban don't throw those out there. It's something about when you turn that film on."

Rozier says Williams holds his own off the field, too.

"Everybody loves him, he's a likable kid," he said. "You don't have to worry about him getting in trouble or running with the wrong crowd. He's a leader in that he does it by example and it translates in school, too. He's one of those kids that wants to keep everyone upbeat."

Williams, who doubles as a star baseball player for Plant City in the offseason, has yet to be ranked by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. 247Sports will release an updated Top247 for the class of 2021 later this spring.
