SAPD: Woman fatally shot after drawing weapon on officer - mySA

A woman was shot to death after she drew an Uzi on a San Antonio police sergeant Wednesday afternoon at a North Side shopping center, officials said.

The 23-year-old woman was reportedly acting distraught at about 5:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Huebner Commons at Vance Jackson and Huebner Road, police said.

SAPD Chief William McManus said a sergeant who was nearby approached the woman after police received a call about her behavior.

“People who saw her noticed she had a gun tucked into the back of her sweatpants,” McManus said. “(She) had her hands up, fists clenched.”

When the sergeant gave her a command, she reached behind her back, McManus said.

The woman had just pulled the gun from her sweatpants when the officer fired several shots, investigators said.

She was struck multiple times in the torso, McManus said. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the shooting, police said.

Investigators said the weapon had an extended magazine. They have not yet confirmed if it was loaded.

The sergeant, a 23-year-veteran of the force, is being placed on administrative duty as police investigate the shooting.
