The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s lottery drawing is worth $40 million with a cash option of $25.8 million.

The winning numbers were: 4, 6, 11, 43, 48. MegaBall: 11. MegaPlier: 3x

The top prize rolled back to $40 million after someone who bought a ticket in Exeter, New Hampshire hit Tuesday’s $168 million Mega Millions jackpot. It’s the first time a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket has been sold in that state since it began participating in the multi-state game in 2010.

A second-prize ticket matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball was sold in California. It’s worth $1,479,091 because California lottery prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners and differ from the fixed second prizes offered in other participating states. If the ticket had been purchased elsewhere, it would have been worth $1 million.

The winner can also choose the cash option of $1 million.

In New Jersey, 18 tickets were sold that matched four numbers. Four of the tickets are worth $1,000 because the buyers spent an extra $1 to exercise the Megaplier option. The other 14 are valued at $500.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 1, 4, 23, 40 and 45. The MegaBall drawn was 11 with a Megaplier of 2x.

The Mega Millions jackpot has now been hit five times this year, including once in New Jersey. Michael J. Weirsky, of Warren County, won the $273 million Mega Millions jackpot from the March 1 drawing.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2 each and in New Jersey must be bought by 10:45 p.m. on the evening of the drawing. The odds of a ticket hitting the jackpot by matching five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have 1 in 12,607,306 shot to win the second prize of at least $1 million by matching five numbers.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
