8 Years of Austin: Drawing, Painting and Motion By Ami Plasse - Patch.com

This show and opening party at Mohawk encompasses the work of Ami Plasse, an illustrator, sketch artist and animator, as he traveled through the music venues, bars, convention centers and other public spaces of the city he has called home since 2011.

In his work, Ami focuses on capturing the energy of the moment, a glimpse of the movement and personalities of his subjects as he observes them. Ami began this expressionist style of documentary art during his days riding the train between Brooklyn in Manhattan, but he honed it here, often connecting with subjects in a more tangible manner, in contrast to the fleeting, anonymous straphangers of New York. At times looking to take his visual observations a step further, he uses the live-captured sketches as a source of reference and inspiration for animated pieces, often cut to wild audio captured on site.

The show consists of a fraction of the thousands of drawings, paintings and animations Ami has captured over the last 8+ years covering subject matter from music, art, politics, creative thought and technology, to the day-to-day lives of the people of Austin. FREE to attend. For more click HERE
