The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s lottery drawing has climbed to $285 million with a cash option of $195.7 million.

The winning numbers were: 20, 31, 40, 46 and 61. The Mega Ball drawn was 20 with a Megaplier of 5X.

The jackpot was last hit on Sept. 24 when a Leander, Texas resident won the $227 million top prize. The winner, who chose the cash option and remained anonymous, took home $157,091,592. Since then 20 drawings have been held without a top prize winner including Tuesday, when no one hit the $266 million jackpot.

A ticket sold in Missouri matched five numbers, but not the Mega Ball, and is worth $2 million since the winner spent an extra $1 for the Megaplier option.

In New Jersey, a pair of tickets were sold that matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball. The $10,000 tickets were purchased at Buddy’s Wine & Liquors on Hudson Street in Hackensack and Quick Stop Food Store on Beverly Rancocas Road in Willingboro, New Jersey Lottery officials said.

The top prize has been won six times this year, including once in New Jersey. Michael J. Weirsky, of Warren County, won the $273 million Mega Millions jackpot in the March 1 drawing.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2 each and in New Jersey must be bought by 10:45 p.m. on the evening of the drawing. The odds of a ticket hitting the jackpot by matching five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have a 1 in 12,607,306 shot to win the second prize of at least $1 million by matching five numbers.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
