The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s lottery drawing has jumped to an estimated $340 million with a cash option of $230.8 million - tied for the 34th largest in U.S. lottery history.

The winning numbers were: 17, 21, 29, 39, 56. The Mega Ball drawn was 22 with a Megaplier of 3X.

The jackpot was last hit on Sept. 24 when a Leander, Texas resident won the $227 million top prize. The winner, who chose the cash option and remained anonymous, took home $157,091,592. Since then 22 drawings have been held without a top prize winner.

While no one hit Tuesday’s $314 million jackpot, a pair of second prize tickets were sold that matched five numbers but not the Mega Ball. A ticket bought in Wisconsin is worth $1 million. One purchased in California is worth $1,524,986 as lottery prizes in that state vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. They differ from the fixed second prizes offered in other participating states.

In New Jersey, a third-prize ticket worth $10,000 was sold at a 7-Eleven in Rifle Camp Road in Woodland Park. It matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 18, 31, 46, 54, 61. The Mega Ball drawn was 25 with a Megaplier of 2X.

The top prize has been won six times this year, including once in New Jersey. Michael J. Weirsky, of Warren County, won the $273 million Mega Millions jackpot in the March 1 drawing.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2 each and in New Jersey must be bought by 10:45 p.m. on the evening of the drawing. The odds of a ticket hitting the jackpot by matching five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have a 1 in 12,607,306 shot to win the second prize of at least $1 million by matching five numbers.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
