Tonight's 12/20/19 jackpot is $40 million, with a cash-value option of $27 million. The total jackpot could increase depending on the number of tickets sold around the country prior to the drawing.
The winning numbers on Tuesday (12/17/19) for the $372 million jackpot were: 22-30-53-55-56 with a Mega Ball of 16. The Megaplier was 2x.
The grand prize winner from Tuesday's drawing was from Ohio. In addition, there were four tickets sold that matched the first five white balls but just missed on the Mega Ball. Three of those tickets were worth $1 million, and a ticket sold in Pennsylvania was worth $2 million because they purchased the Megaplier for an extra $1.
There were 22 tickets Tuesday that matched four of the five white balls and the Mega Ball for the $10,000 third prize. Five of those purchased the Megaplier for an extra $1 for third-prize winnings of $20,000.
Prior to Tuesday, the last Mega Millions grand prize winner was for $227 million on 09/24/19 with a ticket purchased in the city of Cedar Park, Texas—a suburb north of Austin. The winner from nearby Leander came forward to claim that prize, but they wished to remain anonymous.
Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery every Tuesday and Friday night, and it is one of America's two biggest lottery jackpot games. Mega Millions jackpots start at $40 million, and other prizes pay from $1 million to $2 million or more with a Megaplier. The previous Mega Millions winning jackpot ticket was for the 07/23/19 drawing of $168 million. That ticket was sold at Brookside Market & Deli in Exeter, NH. This was New Hampshire's first winning jackpot ticket for Mega Millions. The cash-value option for that ticket was $101.9 million.
