Milton Arts Guild will offer an eight-week series, Foundations of Drawing, with classes from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Fridays, Feb. 7 to March 27, at the MAG Gallery, 310 Walnut St., Milton.
Classes are geared toward those who want to learn strong foundations for drawing, which is the basis of much of the visual arts. Many artists began their creative lives without the drawing skills needed to make strong images. Instructor Joe Terrone will teach students how to see, how to get the right look through the use of negative and positive space, sighting, measuring, squinting, value judgment, etc. Classes will cover making strong compositions using thumbnails, focal points, rules of thirds, the rule of odds, leading the eye, and asymmetrical and symmetrical balance.
Terrone will discuss getting emotion from drawings by working with edges, values, contrast, and atmospheric perspective. Students can maximize current strengths while developing a strong supporting cast of skills. Classes are for beginners as well as those who want to enhance their drawing skills.

Joseph Terrone is a Delaware-based professional artist, a graduate of Pratt Institute with a master of fine arts degree in painting. His paintings are collected throughout the United States and in Europe. He has exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, in several galleries in New Jersey, and at the Peninsula Gallery in Lewes. His painting “Last Snow” was selected as a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine’s 28th annual competition. He teaches at several art leagues and in his studio in the lower Delaware area. Students taking this class may stay for Open Studio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Friday at no additional charge to practice what they’ve learned in a friendly, supportive environment.
