Geauga Park District offers 'Nature Drawing for Kids'

Winter break is coming up and the Geauga Park District is offering youths a chance to sharpen their sketching pencils, dust off their favorite smudge stick and try out some nature drawing in the park at the West Woods, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

“Nature Drawing for Kids” will take place on Dec. 27 with hour-long sessions at 11 a.m. for ages 8-11 and at 1 p.m. for ages 12-15 Registration is required at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516.

Only 12 seats are available for each session, so organizers recommend not signing up soon. Only one overflow session will be created if earlier sessions fill up at 2 p.m.

Geauga Park District’s art classes for kids cover techniques using pencils, tortillions (“smudge sticks”) and gum erasers. All supplies are provided.

Participants can learn the sneaky trick of animal anatomy that can help them draw any mammal with ease. And they will also cover how to make quick sketches of animals in action, how to compose more elaborate sketches, and how to use a photograph as a subject.
