School officials say they found a swastika and pro-Hitler message on a desk.
BROCKTON — A student has been suspended after a swastika and pro-Hitler message were found written on a desk at a city middle school late last week, officials announced Tuesday.
A school district spokeswoman told The Enterprise that an image of a swastika was found on a desk at the Joseph F. Plouffe Academy on Friday.
"Police have since identified the student responsible, who has been removed from the school," the written statement from the district read.
Principal Michelle Nessralla notified parents of the incident on Friday with an automated phone call. Parents received another call on Tuesday to inform them that the student had been identified and suspended.
"It has also come to our attention through reports that this student had posted racist hate speech on social media platforms and some of our students viewed these messages," the statement read.
Brockton Public Schools have engaged the Anti-Defamation League over the past two years to work on professional development with staff and students.
