“What I like is the freedom to draw whatever I want."
You might imagine that an editorial cartoonist’s job is all about jokes, but Jacques Goldstyn says he’s more like an anthropologist.
Better known as Boris, he spends much of his time observing his fellow Montrealers in search of inspiration.
“You hop on the bus,” he says, “and after half an hour you have half a dozen subjects.”
Mind you, some of Boris’s subjects, like Donald Trump or Justin Trudeau, are unlikely to be found on a Montreal bus.
But that variety, Boris says, is central to the appeal of the job: “What I like is the freedom to draw whatever I want.”
