5 Powerball tickets worth $50K sold in NJ for weekend drawing

Five Powerball tickets worth $50,000 apiece were sold in New Jersey for Saturday's drawing.

Someone who bought a ticket sold at Speedway gas station in Manheim, Pennsylvania, hit the $456.7 million jackpot, lottery officials said Monday. If the winner chose the cash option, he or she will receive $273,959,694 before taxes are deducted.

The five lucky New Jersey tickets matched four numbers plus the Powerball. They were sold at the following locations, state lottery officials said Monday morning:

  • GW Bridge Exxon on Route 4 in Englewood
  • Grab & Go Mart on Keim Boulevard in Burlington
  • Jersey Hot Bagels on Route 10 in East Hanover
  • Stop & Shop on Easton Avenue in the Somerset section of Franklin
  • O'Burg Mini Mart on Main Street in Ogdensburg

The odds of matching four numbers and the Powerball are 913,129 to 1.

In addition to the jackpot winner, three other tickets sold across the country matched five numbers, but not the Powerball. A ticket bought in Missouri is worth $1 million; one bought in Texas is worth $2 million because the winner spent an extra $1 to exercise the Power Play option.

The third -- sold in California -- is valued at $1,211,614. California lottery prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners and differ from the fixed prizes offered in other participating Powerball states.

A Powerball ticket costs $2. The odds of hitting the jackpot are 292,201,338 to 1. Players have roughly a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to win the second prize of at least $1 million.
