The Mega Millions Jackpot Just Soared Above $500 Million. Here's When the Next Drawing Is

The Mega Millions jackpot has ballooned to more than $500 million, for just the fourth time in the game’s history.

The jackpot hit $502 million after Tuesday’s contest, the 23rd straight drawing with no jackpot winner, according to a release from Mega Millions. A winner has not been crowned in almost three months, since a 20-year-old Florida man took home $451 million on January 5.

Both Mega Millions and Powerball — which currently has a jackpot of $40 million after a New Hampshire woman claimed $560 million earlier this year — have seen hefty grand prizes lately, largely thanks to rule changes that made it more difficult to win the jackpot. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are now somewhere around 1 in 303 million, while the odds of winning Powerball are around 1 in 292 million.

Nonetheless, a $502 million jackpot is high even by these new standards. A prize above $500 million hasn’t been awarded since July 2016, according to the release. The highest-ever Mega Millions jackpot, $656 million, was won almost exactly six years ago in March 2012.

The next Mega Millions drawing will take place on Friday, March 30, at 11 p.m. E.T.
