Report: 49ers' Pierre Garcon drawing trade interest; Richburg won't play

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Wide receiver Pierre Garcon, 32, whose age and declining play mean he may not be part of the 49ers’ long-term plans, is drawing interest from multiple teams in advance of Tuesday’s trade deadline, ESPN reported.

As noted here earlier this week, Garcon is a logical trade candidate for a team in mid-rebuild. Garcon, who ranks eighth among active players in career receptions, is on pace for a 48-catch, 525-yard season, which would be his lowest totals in a full season in his 11-year career. The 49ers have the 2019 option on his contract, which includes a $5.65 million base salary.

Garcon has been ruled out of today’s game at Arizona with a knee injury he sustained in a loss to the Cardinals on Oct. 7. He’s played two games with the injury and had 1 catch for 5 yards in last week’s loss to the Rams.

By dealing Garcon, the 49ers could provide more snaps for rookie second-round pick Dante Pettis and bolster their 2019 draft outlook.

The 49ers have just five picks in the upcoming draft. Last year, they traded a fifth-round pick to the Lions for left guard Laken Tomlinson. This season, they dealt a seventh-round selection to the Browns for offensive tackle Shon Coleman.

Staring center Weston Richburg won’t play today against Arizona due to a knee injury he apparently aggravated in practice this week.

Richburg will be replaced by Erik Magnuson, who will be making his third career start. Richburg injured his knee in Week 4, but had played in the previous three games. He was limited in practice Wednesday before he missed the final two practices of the week.

Meanwhile, running back Matt Breida (ankle) and cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) will both play after they were listed as questionable. On Thursday, Sherman said he expected to play, but did not know if his calf could recover in time to play Thursday night against the Raiders.

"I’m going to battle and try to (play in) both of them," Sherman said, "but the body can only do what the body can do."
