Warmer Winter Days Drawing to an End as Cold Front Looms - NBC4 Washington

The D.C. area is about to bid adieu to a pleasant stretch of warmer winter temperatures, with an imminent return to the cold.

We're seeing lots of clouds Thursday, as well as a big range in temperatures. Most of the D.C. metro area will stay in the mid 50s throughout the day.

And the mild temps will hang on for the first part of Friday, with morning temperatures in the 50s and likely rising above 60 before noon. But as a cold front comes in early Friday, we'll get some gusty winds and a big drop in temperatures by the afternoon.

Most areas will drop from near 60 at noon all the way down into the mid 30s by Friday night.

Northwest winds will average 20-30 mph Friday afternoon and stay in the range of 15-20 mph into Saturday afternoon.

The weekend looks cold but dry. Expect 100 percent sunshine on Saturday, with temperatures rising from the mid 20s in the morning to the upper 30s in the afternoon.

On Sunday, we'll see more cloudiness in the afternoon as temperatures rise to around 40.

We're still watching Monday and Tuesday for a chance of both rain and snow. There is no real consensus among the forecast models, so confidence remains very low at this time, but this storm will have the potential to have a big impact on our region and Storm Team4 will be watching it closely.

The middle of next week looks dry, with the chance for some more rain or snow by next Friday.
