On Friday, Bleeding Cool broke the news that Bryan Hitch is drawing a Batman comic book written by Warren Ellis. And doing a bit of Twitter tracking, it appears that it may be inked by Kevin Nowlan as well.
Did I mention he’s inking one of my projects? Well, he is.

And going back on social media timelines, may have revealed Bryan Hitch has been drawing it since August 2017, alongside his Hawkman series with Robert Venditti.
On holiday these last couple of weeks. Much needed. Justice League done and two amazing new projects on the drawing board. can’t wait.

I hit the ground next week with Hawkman Found then sequel into two ultra super, mega brilliant projects as artist. More soon.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) August 15, 2017
got two very different projects on my desk starting tomorrow. Both needing different approaches and both will push my artistic limits.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) August 20, 2017
One is likely to have been the Hawkman series that followed Hawkman Found, but the second series was not revealed. Until now.
Been doing a lot or prep research and reading for my next two projects after Hawkman Found. One of which needs a shift in direction for me.

Two quite different projects artistically both of which will stretch me in different ways.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) September 8, 2017
One of my new projects is going to require a significant change of approach for me, I think and I’m quite nervous about it.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) October 9, 2017
so yes, my new major ongoing project is drawing a character I’ve only drawn as part of Justice League; the one after that doesn’t.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) November 6, 2017
Hawkman is a character that Bryan had only drawn as part of the Justice League, but Batman he has drawn separately to that in the past.
thanks Tony. It was fun to do and Kevin and I are staying together for a while on a massive project for DC.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) January 22, 2018
Massive project with Kevin… that’s Batman.
There’s one project I’m drawing for later release and the idea of doing an Unwrapped collection of the 12 issues, pencils, is already under some early discussion. next year is likely.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) March 20, 2018
Twelve issues long – that’s Batman.
thank you all for the massive response to my small news about staying with DC a while. Yes, I still have many more issues of Hawkman to give you and am already into the other project with a further, massive book developing. Looking forward to sharing it all with you.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) November 2, 2018
Further massive book, that’s Batman.
its interesting working on two different projects at the same time. A fight scene with Hawkman is so different to choreographing a fight with XXXXXXX and their environments are polar opposites. Comics are great.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) December 7, 2018
XXXXXXX – that’s Batman.
So this year, more Hawkman issues, my other project launches and I hope something I’ve been working towards for a long while gets the go-ahead.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) January 1, 2019
Something else as well as Batman?
so 2018 was a pretty productive year. I started project XXXXXX and did a few other bits not yet published then onto Hawkman, drawing 8 issues (plus inking loads of pages as needed) in the rest of the year. Looking to really up my game again this year.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) January 18, 2019
XXXXXXX is totally Batman.
I’ve been working on another project on and off during the hawkman run. I draw the way I draw but each project has an individual flavour. That’s not surface style, it’s approach, storytelling. Mood. Different tools from the toolbox.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) January 24, 2019
Bat-tool from the Bat-toolbox?
It is a DC thing and I’m drawing the second issue of it now…
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) January 4, 2019
Begins the year drawing the second issue of Batman.
Got the script for issue three of my other project today and its a corker as you’d expect from a writer like this.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) February 4, 2019
A writer like Warren Ellis?
Prior to my doing Hawkman, when Conan was first returning to Marvel there was some early discussions about doing the series but for various reasons and other projects, I re-signed with DC.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) February 17, 2019
For Batman. And as for Jonathan Ross revealing a Bryan Hitch secret, well, it wouldn’t be the first time.
Newly announced! (by accident): @wossy and I will be signing AGP at @TheBigBang_ in Dublin too. It was a secret. Now it isn’t.
— BRYAN HITCH (@THEBRYANHITCH) March 9, 2012
While Warren himself has been talking about upcoming plans on his essential mailing list, including:
I’m coming in for a landing on THE WILD STORM, and my remaining comics projects are all 12 issues or less. TREES is the exception, as it’s an extensible concept that Jason and I can return to as time, whim and the market allow.
That would tie in with a twelve-issue series on Batman… with three issues written and two issues drawn already… so, where to announce it, WonderCon, C2E2 or ECCC?
