Don’t let it be said that Ben Glenn – aka The Chalkguy – is all chalk and no action. The Indiana man has taken his struggles and turned them into a gig as a professional speaker who found inspiration in life’s challenges. On Tuesday, he brought his inspirational message to more than 100 people at Lost Lake Community Church of the Nazarene in Dixon. Glenn was diagnosed with dyslexia and other learning disabilities as a child, only to learn as an adult that he had had attention deficit disorder all along, a revelation that inspired him to leave college to pursue a love of art and speaking, and share his story with others. He’s been on the road full-time since 1995, traveling throughout the U.S. and around the world to share what he’s learned about ADD as well as dispel myths and misunderstandings surrounding the disorder. During his programs, he talks about overcoming adversity and celebrates diversity and creativity – then he pours on the speed. Glen flexes his creative muscles for speedscaping, in which he creates a large-scale landscape in front of the audience using chalk and a black canvas, utilizing the drawing to highlight his message. This year’s Chalkguy Lego Drive goal is 1001 sets of Legos. The hour and a half presentation yielded two chalk drawing, a bunch of laughs and some strong messages about being "other-centered, living with ADHD and the importance of faith. More than 100 people attended the free event at Lost Lake Community Church in rural Dixon. All who attended were asked to bring a new Lego set for Glenn's other project, the Chalkguy Lego Drive. The Lego Drive stemmed from a teachable moment with Ben and his daughters that turned into a yearly goal. This year's Chalkguy Lego Drive goal is 1001 sets of Legos.
