Mulliken man wins $1 million in Mega Millions drawing - Lansing State Journal

LANSING - A Mulliken man was buying another lottery ticket when he realized he'd won $1 million in a Mega Millions drawing a day earlier.

Gregory Guilford, 68, was in a Portland store, waiting to buy a Powerball ticket, when a woman behind him mentioned that another store had sold a "big winner" the night before, the Michigan Lottery said in a news release.

"As soon as she said that, my mind started racing," he told lottery officials. "I started to leave but turned around to scan my ticket and get a printout of the numbers. I was stunned when I realized I was holding a ticket worth $1 million."

Guilford's ticket matched the five white balls drawn in the May 28 drawing. He'd bought it that day at Bill's Party Store on East Grand River Avenue in Portland.

Guilford cashed his ticket Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Lansing.. He'll use the money to pay bills and travel to Colorado before investing the remainder, the lottery bureau said.
