Students advocate for agriculture in drawing contest - KTVQ Billings News

HELENA – Student artwork from around the state was recognized for the 2019 ‘Montana Ag in Color’ Drawing Contest.

The contest is put on by the Montana Farm Bureau’s Montana Youth Agriculture Literacy project and designed for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The winners of the contest had the chance to tour the capitol, meet with Department of Agriculture representatives and visit the historical society.

The overall winning piece was made by Kamree Pearson of Greenfield Elementary in Teton County.

Titled “Have no Fear Montana Ag Heroes are Here!” the piece featured those involved in the agriculture industry as superheroes.

Pearson said it was important that her drawing show just how important those people are for the state.

“My grandpa he had a farm and he was a farmer and I think that inspired me to do that for agriculture careers,” said Pearson.

First Lady of Montana Lisa Bullock visited with each of the students and their families at the award ceremony and congratulated the artist on their work.

“Thank you for using your artistic talents to elevate the awareness of how important agriculture is to our state,” said Bullock.

This year’s winning artwork will be distributed to classrooms across the state.

The Montana Farm Bureau Federation represents agriculture producers interests ad advocates for Montana ranchers and Farmers and around the world.
